McLintock! (1963)

In an effort to get on with his life, McLintock saves a beautiful but impoverished widow from resettlement and hires her as his cook, welcoming both her and her two children into his home. Sparks begin to fly and McLintock’s simple and serene lifestyle comes to a crashing halt as an unexpected turn of events results in brawls, gunfire, an Indian attack, the engagement of his only daughter and…the return of Mrs. McLintock!

McLintock! is a 1963 comedy Western starring John Wayne, Patrick Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, Stefanie Powers, Chill Wills, and Strother Marten. . The film is famous (or notorious) for its two spanking scenes, in which mother and daughter are each paddled with coal shovels: the daughter by her suitor, the mother by her estranged husband.
